West Bergen Mental Healthcare and Bergen Community College are collaborating once again to bring you a Free Autism Awareness Event onThursday, April 28.
The event will be held at Moses Family Meeting & Training Center, Technology Education Center at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ. Parking Lot B.
Shining Light on the Spectrum: Increasing Awareness of the Five Pervasive Developmental Disorders will present to the audience an overview of the 5 Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDDs) with special emphases on Asperger’s and Autistic Disorder. Dr. Jeanne Marron, Clinical Director of Asperger’s Related Services at West Bergen will review the various symptoms and associated features found in Asperger’s and Autism and discuss how the proposed changes to the diagnostic criteria might affect many of those individuals with a PDD. Gain a glimpse of what it is like to have significant social challenges as Jennifer Kunert and Lauren Lawson moderate panels of children, adolescents and adults who will share their first hand experiences of difficulties and triumphs. Time will be set aside for questions from the audience. Be sure to visit the “talent tables” displaying artwork and other expressive talents of individuals on the spectrum.
