Franklin Lakes Company Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County, Donates $10K

For eight months, Becton Dickinson and Company (BD) has helped work on homes on the first Thursday of every month.

Becton Dickinson and Company (BD), of Franklin Lakes, has participated in monthly volunteer builds with Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County, which aligns with BD’s purpose of helping all people live healthy lives.

BD has volunteered on the first Thursday of every month on a Habitat Bergen job site since March. Over the course of eight months, BD volunteers have worked on tasks such as installing framing and drywall, spackling, sanding, painting and installing house wrap in multiple Little Ferry homes.

In addition to BD’s hands-on support, the company has generously donated $10,000 to Habitat Bergen this year.

“I am pleased at the commitment level of our associates this past year. Their support of Habitat Bergen and the families affected by Hurricane Sandy truly demonstrate the BD values,” said Ellen Rafferty, BD, Manager, Product Donations and Community Relations, Social Investing.

“BD has been a consistent supporter of our rebuilding efforts in Little Ferry,” said Jacey Raimondo, Habitat Bergen Executive Director. “The affiliate is lucky to have a partner as generous as BD, a company that gives their time, talent and resources.”

The goal of Habitat Bergen is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by working in partnership with people in need. Using volunteer labor and donated funds and materials, Habitat Bergen builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses and sells them to low-income families at cost, but with no interest added. Habitat Bergen is a people-to-people partnership, which joins all of us together regardless of race, nationality, religion, or socioeconomic status. That partnership begins with the homeowner families (partner families). Habitat Bergen is not a giveaway program, but a joint venture in which those who benefit from the housing ministry are involved in the work at various levels. They help with the construction of their own home, as well as the houses of their neighbors.
