Franklin Lakes Cop Shoots Self While Investigating 'Dog Complaint': Police

BREAKING: The injury is not life-threatening and no one else was hurt, police said.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — A borough police officer was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound while he was investigating a "dog complaint" Friday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred just after 2 p.m., said Capt. John Bakelaar.

The injury is not life-threatening and nobody else was injured, Bakelaar said. Police did not give any information about the complaint, where exactly the incident took place, nor did they name the officer involved.

"We are looking into the circumstances," the captain said.

Police offered no further comment.
