The borough council moved forward at a work session this week with improvements to basketball courts and the parking lot at the Pulis Avenue recreation center.
The council awarded the project to D&L Paving of Nutley, the same company that has done the work for the borough’s road repaving program.
Though borough engineer Kevin Boswell said that the company’s bid was slightly over the original estimate due to additional work needed around the perimeter of the parking lot, D&L came in with the lowest bid at $176,790.

He said that the company has also come in under budget on the road program.
The work will be partially funded by a bond ordinance approved in May that is also paying for the road program as well as some public works vehicles.

Borough administrator Greg Hart said that the project would be “substantially expanding the parking area and improving the basketball court,” adding that in the end there will be fewer courts at the site but that the courts will be in “much better condition.”
The work is expected to be completed this summer.
