Giants' QB Kyle Lauletta Arrested, Nearly Ran Over Cop: Reports

Kyle Lauletta made a right-hand turn and nearly ran over the officer, reports said.

New York Giants backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta was arrested Tuesday morning after he nearly ran over a police officer in Weehawken while on his way to practice in East Rutherford, according to reports.

Quoting sources with knowledge of the incident, Lauletta, 23, was trying to turn onto Route 495 West from the wrong lane. A police officer directed him to keep going straight, but Lauletta made the right-hand turn anyway and nearly ran over the officer, according to an NJ.com report.

Another officer stopped Lauletta at the end of the on-ramp, according to the report. The Weekhawken Police Department said a press release regarding Lauletta's arrest would be issued Tuesday afternoon.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said in a statement released by the team that they were "still in the process of gathering information" and that it was "obviously very disappointing."

Lauletta is an Exton, Pennsylvania native. The Giants selected him in the fourth round of this year's NFL draft. He has yet to play in a regular-season NFL game.

Lauletta's arrest is the latest blemish for the Giants during this 1-7 season. The team's next game is Nov. 12 against the San Francisco 49ers.
