Sometimes the long arm of the law is a little short. Motorists were surprised on the first Saturday in February 1947 when they were presented with a ticket from a young boy. This was part of Boy Scout Week and the boys were part of Troop 89. The troop was split into two parts. The first stood watch at the local Fire Hall. With the heavy snow that had fallen there was no threat of fire. So the troop members spent their time working in and around the hall and the equipment. They received a working knowledge of what the Fire Men do.

The latter went on patrol with Officer David Mitchell. The young officers acted in a professional manner when they observed a violation of the law. When a violator protested that the ticket was not authentic they were presented with a “Certificates of Office”. The “Officers” had been sworn in the week before at Town Hall.

The “Officers” were on hand a week later at the Recorder Court when the offenders appeared to answer for what they did and pay the fine. All the tickets were enforced and the fines were paid. A good job was done by the then members of Troop 89 enforcing the law and protecting the town.
