Letter to the Editor: Bennett, Schwartz & Veliky for Franklin Lakes BOE

While electing a President is high priority on the November 6th ballot, let's not forget that our schools impact the future leaders of our country, our children.  As we fill three spots on the Franklin Lakes K-8 Board of Education it is important to elect the best candidates for the job, Margaret Bennett, Kathie Schwartz and Jacqueline Veliky.  Each has an impressive resume of community service, but what sets them apart is their reliability, respect and commitment to all constituent groups, the taxpayers, the educators and ultimately, the children of Franklin Lakes.

Incumbent candidates Kathie Schwartz and Margaret Bennett both have a level of integrity that is unparalleled as board members. They respect the educators in our district, but work hard to hold the appropriate parties accountable while exercising fiscal responsibility for taxpayers.  During their tenure we have seen the implementation of innovative math and language arts curriculum, adherence to a school budget within the state mandated cap, and one of the first negotiated contracts with employee contributions to health insurance.  They have served our district well for almost four years and our children will benefit from their continued service.

Jackie Veliky is a former PTA President at Woodside Avenue School who regularly attends board meetings. She has educated herself on board procedures and the issues facing our district and can hit the ground running to be an effective board member. She has participated on Board of Education sub-committees and fulfilled her obligations at every turn for the children of Franklin Lakes in her various volunteer commitments.

I encourage you to learn more about these three candidates by visiting their web site at www.vote4prideinourschools.com.  We need dynamic, hard working people of integrity representing ALL of the children in our town.  Bennett, Schwartz and  Veliky represent those qualities.

Signed,
Carolyn Reitz
