Man Caught Shoplifting $500 Worth Of Frozen Shrimp From Wyckoff Stop & Shop: Police

Roy V. Schmitt, 33, tried to push his way through store employees who confronted him, police said.

WYCKOFF, N.J. — A man pushed his way through Stop & Shop employees while shoplifting $500 worth of frozen shrimp store Thursday, police said.

Sgt. Mark Tagliareni was dispatched to the store on a report of a shoplifter and was told by store security that Roy V. Schmitt, 33, of North Haledon, tried to steal 21 bags of frozen shrimp from the store, said Chief David Murphy.

Schmitt tried to push his way through store employees who confronted him about the 21 bags of shrimp, the chief said.

An investigation by Wyckoff police revealed that Schmitt was involved in another incident at the store in September, authorities said. He was charged with robbery and two counts of shoplifting.

Schmitt was taken to the Bergen County Jail in default of $20,000 bail, Murphy said.
