Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Woman In Her Bergen County Home: Prosecutor

Weyam Rushdi, 36, of was charged with aggravated sexual assault with a weapon, kidnapping, and armed burglary, authorities said.

A man was charged with seuxally assaulting a woman inside her Bergen County home early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Weyam Rushdi, 36, of Jersey City, allegedly broke into a Midland Park woman's home and sexually and physically assaulted her, said Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

The victim reported the assault to Midland Park Police Sunday and an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victim's Unit and the Midland Park Police Department began, Grewal said.

As a result of the investigation, Rushdi was arrested in Waldwick and charged with several offenses:

  • Aggravated sexual assault with a weapon
  • Aggravated sexual assault during the commission of a burglary
  • Kidnapping
  • Armed burglary
  • Aggravated assault
  • Making terroristic threats
  • Possession of a weapon with an unlawful purpose
  • Possession of a weapon

Bergen County Superior Court Judge Walter F. Skrod set Rushdi's bail at $2 million with no 10 percent option, the prosecutor said. As condition of bail, Rushdi is not to contact the alleged victim and must surrender his passport.

Rushdi is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court Dec. 23 at 8:30 a.m., Grewal said.
