On Sunday, October 13, 2019, the Metropolis of New Jersey, Northern NJ Greek Orthodox Youth Commission sponsored the yearly Mr. & Miss GOYA Pageant at The Pines Manor in Edison, NJ. This year’s Wyckoff, N.J. nominees representing the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church were Joseph Dante Maurice and Cassandra Carmichael.

One male and one female nominee were selected from each Greek Orthodox Church from northern New Jersey. The nominees had blinded interviews the day before the pageant, and where asked various questions as related to the Greek Orthodox religion, culture as well as current events.

The day of the pageant, those nominees that made it to the next round, were asked one question. Contestants were separated in a room and did not know of the question before hand nor did they hear the other contestant’s answers. Five male and five female contestants were selected to move onto the next round for this final question. Congratulations to J. Dante Maurice for being selected as the 4th runner up!

Many family, friends and fellow parishioners from the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church were in attendance to support our nominees. Proceeds from this pageant benefit the Northern NJ Greek Orthodox Youth Scholarship Foundation. The Pageant Host this year was Nick Meidanis from News 12 New Jersey.

Congratulations to both Cassandra and Dante on superbly representing Wyckoff, NJ and the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church!
