Pedestrian Killed Crossing Elmwood Park Street Identified: Police

The man was trying to cross the street to get to a 7-Eleven, police said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The pedestrian who was killed in a motor vehicle crash in Elmwood Park early Tuesday morning has been identified, police announced.

Hitendkakumar Bhatt, 55, of Elmwood Park, was crossing Broadway when he was struck by a Ford Explorer going westbound on Broadway, said Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligino.

Bhatt was walking in a south-to-north direction to try and get to 7-Eleven, Foligino said.

The SUV's driver is a Garfield resident. No charges will be filed against the driver at this time, Foligino said.
