Person Dies After Driving Car Over Live Wire: Police [Video]

Police found a vehicle "fully-engulfed" in flames and a live power line on the ground in Franklin Lakes Thursday morning.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — A person died after driving into a live wire on Summit Avenue Thursday morning, police announced. The car then caught fire.

The driver tried to get his car around a barricade when the incident happened, according to 6abc. The vehicle then erupted in flames.

Police received a report just before 9 a.m. from Northwest Central Dispatch of a vehicle fire on Summit Avenue near Route 208, Capt. John Bakelaar said.

Officers found a car "fully engulfed" in flames and a live power line lying in the roadway next to it, Bakelaar said.

The occupant died and has not been positively identified yet, the captain said.

Authorities are investigating what happened. Personnel from the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office and the Bergen County Sheriff's Office are there assisting with the investigation.

Police have warned residents to stay off the roads while snow is plowed. There are reports of downed power lines throughout Bergen County.
