Pilots Union: Scott Garrett 'Is Weak' On Fighting Terrorism

United Pilots endorses Josh Gottheimer for election to N.J.'s 5th Congressional District.

A representative from United Pilots questioned Rep. Scott Garrett’s commitment to air safety and terrorism Wednesday in Bergenfield.

Capt. Rob Domaleski, chairman of the United Pilots Master Executive Council, Airline Pilots Association announced the organization’s endorsement of Wyckoff native Josh Gottheimer’s candidacy to unseat Garrett and represent New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District.

“When comes to fighting terror, Scott Garrett is weak,” Domaleski said. “Garrett is refusing to implement safety measures on our airplanes which could prevent the next terror attack on our soil and prevent our planes from being used as weapons of mass destruction against our homeland again.”

Domaleski said that Garrett, a Republican, refused to meet with organization members in person. Garrett also allegedly opposes a proposed safety measure to install wire-mesh barriers that would help prevent people from entering cockpits.

“I believe that we could be doing more to make planes even safer against threats of violence and terror,” said Gottheimer, a former Microsoft executive and speechwriter for President Bill Clinton. “We must be even more vigilant in both our efforts to defeat the terrorists abroad and protect our families at home.”
