RIVER EDGE, NJ — A former River Edge police sergeant says he was forced into retirement last year, according to a report.

Curt Wilhelm has filed a lawsuit against the borough and the police department in New Jersey Superior Court, according to NorthJersey.com. Wilhelm had filed an age discrimination suit in 2018, the publication reports.

Wilhelm claimed River Edge did not want to promote him to lieutenant because of his age, and promoted younger officers to save money, according to NorthJersey.com.

Wilhelm was promoted to sergeant in 2010.
