Wyckoff Homes Are Being Burglarized, Police Warn

BREAKING: Police have stepped up patrols, especially in the Sicomac section of town where most of the burglaries have been reported.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Police are warning residents about an increase in residential burglaries and attempted burglaries in recent weeks.

The incidents have occurred mostly in the Sicomac section of town in March and April, said Chief David Murphy.

Police have increased patrols in affected areas using marked and unmarked vehicles, notified residents when they "see an opportunity to better secure their properties" and are going door-to-door after a burglary is reported to try and obtain information about any suspicious activity, Murphy said.

"We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods and reporting anything unusual or suspicious," Murphy said. "Hear it, see it, report it."

Residents are asked to keep their garage doors closed and locked, shrubs and bushes trimmed so that burglars cannot hide in them, should not leave bicycles or lawn equipment outside.

Vehicles should be locked and the keys removed, even in a driveway. Valuables, including cell phones, Bluetooth-enabled devices and wallets should be removed or hidden, Murphy said.

Anyone who sees any suspicious people, vehicles or activity in his or her neighborhood is asked to call the Wyckoff Police Department at 201-891-2121.
