Ramapo Varsity Cheerleading Team Wins National Championship

The Ramapo High School Varsity Competitive Cheer Team wins National Championship and Grand Champ title at The Apex event in Orlando, FL.

Ramapo's Varsity Competitive Cheer Team just brought home a National Championship from the Apex Competitive Cheer event in Orlando, FL. The team, which is comprised of 15 girls, placed first in the Intermediate High School division against schools from across the country this past weekend at Universal Studios. In addition, the Ramapo team was named Grand Champs for receiving the highest score overall in the high school division.

Seniors and co-captains Sasha Nihamin and Phoebe Taylor stated, "We are incredibly proud of how far we have come as a team this season. We had some injuries and challenges, but to bring home a National Championship to Ramapo makes it all worth it!" Both Nihamin and Taylor have been on the team for four years. This is the second national championship win for Ramapo in five years. Coaches Marissa Imperato and Stefaney Cicala added, "We have been with some of these girls for many years and have seen them grow as cheerleaders, people and athletes. This team is incredibly hard working, talented and deserving of this awesome win!"

The RHSVC team begins training for their season in August and competes throughout New Jersey from December until March. In addition to competing and performing, the team also hosted a competition event at Ramapo in February in which more than 60 teams from the tristate area participated. Proceeds from this event funded their travel expenses to Florida.
