Sterling Shepard Helps Launch Stop & Shop's Food for Friends

Giants Wide Receiver Sterling Shepard joins fans at the Wyckoff Stop & Shop to help launch the company’s annual Food For Friends program. Shoppers can donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout to support local and regional food banks, ensuring friends and neighbors don’t go hungry this summer. According to the Community FoodBank of NJ, the most vulnerable time for children facing hunger is during the summer months when schools are closed and they lose access to school meals. Stop & Shop’s Food For Friends program will run until July 12th.

Giants Wide Receiver Sterling Shepard helped Stop & Shop launch its annual Food for Friends Campaign when he visited the Wyckoff Stop & Shop. Stop & Shop’s Food For Friends program is the company’s annual front-end campaign dedicated to fighting hunger in the communities it serves. During this 4-week campaign, which will run until July 12th, shoppers will be able to donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout to support local and regional food banks, ensuring friends and neighbors don’t go hungry this summer. 60% of the money raised goes to a local partner selected by the store, while 40% goes to the store’s regional food bank partner. In Wyckoff, the local hunger beneficiary is St. Elizabeth Church. The Community FoodBank of NJ is Wyckoff’s regional partner.

Last year, the Stop & Shop Food For Friends campaign brought in more than $1M to eradicate hunger across the company’s footprint.

According to the Community FoodBank of NJ, the most vulnerable time for children facing hunger is during the summer months when schools are closed and they lose access to school meals. During the 2017-2018 school year, nearly 400,000 kids in New Jersey received free or reduced-price lunch. For many of them, this was their only consistent source of food for the week.
