What is volunteerism? By definition it is the use or involvement of volunteer labor, especially in community services. As parents, we know that behaviors of children such as kindness and empathy all start with parents. Well, so does volunteering. The act of doing something greater (and outside of you) is not only rewarding but gives a sense of purpose, adds to one's self-esteem and knowing that no job is too big or small. In the grand scheme of things, everyone's job is equally important. Just as with sports, everyone playing on a team has a specific and unique role/purpose. Volunteering teaches kids to be part of a team and that their time and efforts are wanted, needed and valued.
Here in this photo are girls, some parishioners of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, NJ, others non-parishioners who were invited by their friends, ...this is our future. 2,440 traditional greek cookies called koulourakia were baked. The girls here did a great job of packaging up these cookies and labeling them for the upcoming Greek Festival on September 23rd-25th, 2016 at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, NJ. Many more delicious desserts have also be prepared! I hope to see you there!
