Westwood Man Charged With Sex Crime Against Child: Prosecutor
A Westwood man was charged with a sex crime against a child under 13 in Bergen County, prosecutors said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 33-year-old Westwood man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child under 13, prosecutors said Friday.
Nicholas Cavaniola has been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said that on May 8, 2023, the Westwood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred in the past.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Cavaniola sexually had assaulted a child under the age of 13 in Westwood, prosecutors said.
He was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Feb. 28, prosecutors said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
