Wyckoff Education Association Awards 2017 Scholarship

The Wyckoff Education Association, a professional organization comprised of faculty and staff of the Wyckoff Public Schools, is pleased to announce Kevin DeLoughry and Peter Gunn as the recipients of their 7th annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors. The WEA 2017 winners were presented with a plaque and a $2000 scholarship at an awards program held on June 5, 2017.

Kevin DeLoughry is the son of WEA member Thomas DeLoughry. He will graduate from Bergen Catholic HIgh School in Oradell, NJ where he met the challenges of a rigorous schedule, excelling in 8 Advanced Placement classes, while also leading the track team as captain. Kevin was a guiding member of his school through the student government association and the student leadership program. Additionally, Kevin is a thoughtful, compassionate young man who is an aspiring filmmaker. He has served as a film critic for the Bergen Catholic Herald. In his own words, Kevin says, “People are complicated; I want to explore that through movies with substance.” Kevin will pursue his filmmaking at Wesleyan University.

Patrick Gunn, an AP Scholar with distinction and an Eagle Scout, has been a leader at Ramapo High School both inside and outside the classroom. Patrick has been a positive influence through his community service and extracurricular activities. Through his Eagle Scout project, Patrick created a butterfly garden for the students of ECLC in Waldwick. He also captained the fencing team at Ramapo HIgh School. As an avid musician, Patrick was section leader of the marching band and a clarinet player in the pit orchestra. Additionally, he found a love of writing, working for the school newspaper and served as Editor-in-Chief during his senior year. Patrick will continue to study journalism and broadcast at Syracuse University.

The WEA congratulates Kevin DeLoughry and Peter Gunn, and wishes all 2017 graduating high school seniors the best in their future endeavors.
