Son Dies, Father Injured After Being Struck By Car Crossing NJ Street

A Wyckoff man died and his father was injured in a crash in Fair Lawn on Sunday night, police confirmed.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A Wyckoff man has died and his father was injured when they were struck by a car in Fair Lawn on Sunday night, police confirmed.

Matthew W. Ritter, 30, died following the crash near the intersection of Cedar Street and Maple Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night, said a spokesperson for the Fair Lawn police. His father, 61, also of Wyckoff, was injured, the spokesperson said.

They were trying to cross the street from the Knights of Columbus at 16 Maple Ave. when they were hit, police said. Both were brought to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson. Ritter later succumbed to his injuries.

Police received multiple 911 calls around 7:32 p.m., they said.

The crash is under investigation and no summonses have been issued so far, police said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said they had no additional comment or information to release at this time.
