Cops: Wyckoff Driver Cleared Of Most Charges, Guilty Of DUI
William S. Collins was found guilty of DUI, but other related charges were all dismissed.

A Wyckoff man was arrested for driving while intoxicated last week after crashing his car into a utility pole, snapping it in half and continuing to drive with the car’s airbags deployed, police said.
William S. Collins, 46, of Janice Court, was allegedly driving while intoxicated when his vehicle went off the roadway on Wyckoff Avenue near Monroe Avenue at 10:49 a.m. on Nov. 21.

The vehicle struck a utility pole, snapping it in half and causing it to fall on the roadway, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said.
Collins continued driving on Wyckoff Avenue before Wyckoff Police spotted the vehicle, which had “extensive front end damage and all air bags deployed.”

Collins was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath test, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, reckless driving and failure to provide proof of insurance.
He was released to his wife and will appear in court Dec. 4.
