Wyckoff Man Charged With Lewdness After Exposing Himself To Woman: Police

John S. Sfugaras, 33, was charged with 3 counts of lewdness, police said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Township resident John S. Sfugaras was charged with three counts of lewdness after he exposed himself to a woman in a Mahwah parking garage Monday, authorities said.

Police set up a surveillance detail at the Sheraton Crossroads parking garage after receiving complaints that a man was exposing himself and committing a lewd act in front of a woman who would pass by his vehicle, said Chief James Batelli.

Detectives investigated two similar incidents and Detective Sgt. Kevin Herbert set up the surveillance detail in the garage. Police saw a vehicle that fit the description of one used in the previous incidents enter the garage and move to different locations inside, Batelli said.

At about 6 p.m. Monday, a woman passed the vehicle and Sfugaras, 33, exposed himself to her while committing "a lewd act," the chief said.

When police vehicles approached Sfugaras and tried to stop him, he drove away and nearly hit one of the police vehicles, which had to swerve out of the way, Batelli said.
