Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox will be demoted, the township committee decided Tuesday night. The committee unanimously approved a resolution demoting Fox after investigators found that an emailadvocating racial profiling violated a state attorney general’s directive banning racial profiling, according to NorthJersey.com.

NorthJersey.com reports the resolution approved Tuesdaycalls on township attorneys to "begin disciplinary action against the chief." It also recommends he is demoted from any supervisory position. He was also suspended without pay for 180 days, the report said.

In March, the township police chief agreed to temporarily step down from his position during the Attorney General's office investigation into the email sent in 2014 that said racial profiling has its place in law enforcement.

The email was first obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union, which demanded that Fox be fired. Fox asked to go on immediate administrative leave while the investigation was pending; the committee unanimously agreed to the request.
