Barricaded Wyckoff Man Caused SWAT Standoff: Police

Bergen County mental health officials informed police about the man. Police spoke with him and he barricaded himself in a Martom Road home.

WYCKOFF, NJ — A man barricaded himself in a Martom Road house and a SWAT team was called to the scene that resulted in a two-and-half-hour standoff Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police did not release the man's name and did not say that charges were filed against him.

Police received a report at 12:41 p.m. from the Bergen County Mental Health Screening Agency asking them for help screening the man, said Chief David Murphy. The man went to the door, made several "concerning comments" to police, and barricaded himself in the house, said Murphy.

Officers set up around the house and contacted the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, who responded, the chief said.

The police, SWAT Team, and negotiators got the man to safely exit the house and he was taken into custody at 3:17 p.m.; the man was evaluated at the house and then taken to a local medical facility for treatment, Murphy said.
