Wyckoff Teen Arrested After Stealing Street Sign

John P. O'Connor, 18, was arrested after police received a report that people damaged his mailbox, police said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — A township teenager was arrested for stealing a street sign after police received a report Sunday that a group of people damaged his mailbox, authorities said.

A Crankshaw Place resident notified police at about the vandalism at midnight Sunday, Lt. Joseph Soto said.

Four police officers responded to the area and found and stopped a vehicle the caller described, Soto said. Officer Terrence Murphy saw a street sign in the back seat.

John P. O'Connor Jr., 18, was arrested after an investigation and charged with committing criminal mischief damage in excess of $500, Soto said.

O'Connor was processed and released with a pending court date.
