Good morning, Albuquerque! Let's get you started this Tuesday with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 69 Low: 41.

Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. The Air Force Research Laboratory is betting $750,000 on a new system that Albuquerque-based data analytics firm RS21 built to prolong satellite operations through remote monitoring and intervention. The system – dubbed the Space Prognostic AI Custodian Ecosystem, or SPAICE – applies artificial intelligence to detect problems before they arise, allowing ground operators to intervene in advance of failures to extend satellite functionality. Once fully installed, SPAICE will provide a steady stream of data from the satellite and the space environment where it's operating, including real-time information on everything from how components are functioning, heat levels inside the craft, and the satellite's positioning to current weather in space, fuel-tank levels, and how charged the vehicle batteries are. (Albuquerque Journal)
  2. New Day Youth & Family Services is Albuquerque's leading organization for assisting youth currently experiencing homelessness. A local nonprofit organization, New Day works with young people ages 11 through 24 and offers a variety of services including transitional housing and support, a life skills academy, and providing basic necessities including hygiene products and food. They are marking the grand opening of their new youth drop-in center, The Space, with a virtual celebration on Monday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. The Space will offer computers with internet access, a lounge area, basic necessities, a kitchen, lockers, resource navigation, weekly activities, and more. 3. The man convicted of killing a decorated Army veteran at an Albuquerque ATM in 2016 will get a new trial. (U.S. News & World Report)
  4. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and local organizations are raising awareness and offering support to victims. (KOAT New Mexico)
  5. Century 14 in downtown Albuquerque, a go-to movie spot for many New Mexicans, showed its last movie Sunday night before closing its doors for good. (KOAT New Mexico)
