The only difference between the proposed traditional and extended-year calendars is the start date. Students attending schools on an extended-year calendar would start two weeks earlier on Wednesday, July 27, giving them ten additional instructional days. Teachers and staff at those schools would start the 2022-2023 school year on July 20.

All holidays and breaks would be the same for the traditional and extended-year calendars, as would the last day of school, May 25, 2023.

Fall Break: Schools would be closed for three days, from Thursday, October 6, through Monday, October 10, which is Indigenous Peoples Day.

Winter Break: Schools would be closed from Thursday, December 22, to Wednesday, January 3, with teachers returning on January 4 for training and students returning on Thursday, January 5, for the start of the second semester.

Spring Break: Schools would be closed the last week of March, from the 27th through the 31st.

The proposed 2022-2023 calendars have several similarities to past calendars, including:

  • A three-day Thanksgiving break for schools following two days of parent/teacher conferences for all grades in November
  • A day off for Labor Day in September and for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January
  • School closures for Election Day and Veterans Day in November
  • A two-day break for schools for the Vernal Holiday in April
  • Two days for parent/teacher conferences for elementary and middle schools only (not high schools) in March

In addition, schools would get an extra day off for Presidents Day weekend in 2023, closing on Friday, February 17, and Monday, February 20.

Both proposed calendars were developed by a committee of principals, union representatives, and district administrators.

Students, families, and the community are encouraged to comment on the proposed calendar, which will go back to the committee and then to the Board of Education for final approval.
