1. Pajarito Powder Increases Fuel Cell Production Capacity (fuelcellsworks.com) — Albuquerque-based Pajarito Powder is quadrupling its fuel cell catalyst production capacity to support a new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle launch. The company has added major new equipment and shifted into a 27,000-square-foot Albuquerque facility, enabling much larger batch sizes. Backed by global automotive and industrial investors, the firm continues to grow local advanced manufacturing jobs and capabilities.
2. NM: Diraq to Establish Quantum Research & Development Lab in New Mexico (tradeandindustrydev.com) — A new quantum computing research and development lab is coming to Albuquerque as Australia-founded Diraq sets up operations at the state-backed Roadrunner Quantum Lab. The company plans to build a local measurement engineering team by year's end, supported by New Mexico's investment in federal quantum initiatives. Officials say the move strengthens Albuquerque's role in a growing statewide quantum technology ecosystem.
3. Animal Welfare Department seeks doghouse donations for pets in need during winter months (krqe.com) — Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department is asking residents to donate new or gently used doghouses to help low‑income pet owners keep outdoor dogs safe this winter. You can drop off shelters at the Eastside or Westside city shelters, request pickup by email, build a doghouse, or give money through Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres while the drive runs through mid‑November.
4. Why Albuquerque's $5.2 million opioid settlement vote came to a sudden halt (abq.news) — Albuquerque's City Council ran out of time to vote on a $5.2 million opioid settlement plan that would fund treatment navigation at the Gateway System of Care, keep the Medical Sobering Center open, support recovery housing, and bolster APS prevention programs. With questions about recurring costs and prevention targets still unresolved, councilors will revisit the proposal at their Oct. 19 meeting, and residents can weigh in beforehand.
5. 'La Ristra' hot air balloon flies again at Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (kob.com) — Albuquerque residents at Balloon Fiesta can once again spot the towering La Ristra special-shape balloon, freshly returned home after years in storage out of state. The 128-foot, 800‑pound chile-themed balloon needs a seven-person crew and favorable winds, and its team hopes to fly it again in the coming days.
