First, today's weather:
Clouds giving way to sun. High: 47 Low: 27.
Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:
- Pastor Joanne Landry launched the Compassion Services Center in an old portable classroom across the street from her church last summer. Today, the shelter provides overnight accommodations for up to 25 people and reaches others providing blankets, gloves, and other essentials to those who walk up to the premises at night and are too late to secure a cot. The city of Albuquerque is contributing about $137,000 to help sustain the 'warming station' through the winter, with money going to utilities, client stipends, and the professional security guard who provides night-watch services. (Albuquerque Journal)
- The Albuquerque Police Department used a drone to catch a suspect in hiding who has been accused of assault. Moments after threatening a mail carrier with a knife, police say that Elias Gallegos took off, hiding in a stranger's backyard a few blocks away near Constitution and San Mateo. APD sent up a drone to get a birds-eye view, that drone quickly zeroed in on Gallegos, who is currently in custody. (KRQE News 13)
- A one-gloved man who is suspected of multiple bank robberies in the Albuquerque area has thus far evaded capture. The suspect has been linked to at least three bank robberies this month, the most recent being Tuesday afternoon. The FBI is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robber. (Albuquerque Journal)
