🌱Arguments Surround NM Stadium + Police Union Backs No Candidate

Some brightening. High: 68 Low: 45.
Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:
- Opposing arguments for a New Mexico United soccer stadium are causing a lot of confusion for metro voters. Some argue the money would be better spent on education, health care, fighting crime and homelessness in our city. Others worry the facility will drive up the cost of living in Barelas or South Broadway, the two primary locations the city is looking at for the stadium. Community members have questioned the quality of the new jobs the stadium would provide and whether they would be permanent, well-paying and would include benefits. (KOB)
- With the local election just days away, Albuquerque's police union is speaking out saying they don't support any mayoral candidate. Union president Shaun Willoughby said his organization's decision to not back any candidate comes from a lack of city support. Willoughby did note if the mayoral race does go to a run-off the narrative of not supporting a candidate could change, but is not likely. (KOAT New Mexico)
- A violent Halloween weekend left five dead around the Albuquerque metro area and left several others injured. (KOAT New Mexico)
- With only two people at the New Mexico Public Education Department conducting background checks, people applying for education licenses to work inside schools with questionable past histories are slipping through the process and entering classrooms. (KOB)
- The city of Albuquerque's youth programming has returned to pre-pandemic levels. (KRQE News 13)
