🌱Arson Suspect Identified + Computer Chip Shortage Causes Delay
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Albuquerque.
Hello, people of Albuquerque! It's me again, Erica Zenn, your host of the Albuquerque Daily.
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the morning. High: 45 Low: 29.
Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:
- Authorities have identified the Islamic Center arson suspect one month after multiple fires were set at the center, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. According to an arrest affidavit released on Monday, police are searching for Isela Camarena. The fires were set on Nov. 29, and security cameras show Camarena setting a trashcan on fire, then pouring the flaming trash out and spreading it. (KOB)
- The computer chip shortage has led to a delay in updating signals on city streets. One such example is the hawk signal on Central between Carlisle Blvd and Wellsley Drive, though crews have been working on it and it appears good to go, it is missing a computer chip. Other safety improvements being affected include new traffic cameras and rest-on-red smart signals, and there is no word on when the new parts will come in to start manufacturing these traffic signals. (KRQE News 13)
- A free, one-time vaccine event took place at the Westside Community Center on Tuesday, Dec. 28. The New Mexico Department of Health and the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management hope to put a spotlight on open vaccine events, as the demand for vaccines remains high in parts of the state. It took place between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and had the capacity to administer 550 doses of the Pfizer vaccine (primary and booster). (KRQE News 13)
- Allie Sikorski, founder of the rescue "Pawsitive Life," was this week's Pay it 4ward recipient. She takes in animals from all over the state. With the $400 she received, she plans to pay off some of the vet bills that Pawsitive Life accrues in caring for their animals. (KOB)
