🌱 Balloon Pilot Autopsy + Electric Tram Coming To Botanic Garden

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Albuquerque.

Good morning, neighbors! Rachel Kilimnik here with a fresh Albuquerque Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine. High: 63 Low: 34.

Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. A newly-released autopsy report reveals what killed a balloon pilot involved in a deadly crash in Albuquerque over the summer. However, there are still many unanswered questions. While toxicology reports released a couple of months ago show the pilot, Nick Meleski, had cocaine and THC in his system at the time of the crash, the autopsy shows the drugs did not cause his death prior to the balloon hitting power lines. (KRQE News 13)
  2. Those who are soaking up the nice weather near Tingley Beach may notice something is missing. The train tracks are getting ripped out – and there's just a gravel walking path that leads to the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden. The city is investing in a faster, more accessible, electric tram to replace the rail train. The new timeline has the tram ready for customers in the spring of 2022. (KOB)
  3. UNMH and Presbyterian are both continuing to run over capacity at their Albuquerque hospitals with patient populations over around 120% at Presbyterian and around 140% at UNMH. (KRQE News 13)
  4. A Subway on Montano and Taylor Ranch Road has decided to go cashless after facing a series of robberies. Despite the new store policy, people still try to rob the store. (KOAT Albuquerque)
  5. APD arrested and charged a Santo Domingo Pueblo man accused of a homicide in southeast Albuquerque. Keith Bird, 50, was arrested after admitting to police he killed another man with by using a tree branch during a dispute Monday. (KOB)
