🌱 Barelas Homeless Camps + Most ABQ Voters Support Vax Mandate

Stay in the loop about everything going down in Albuquerque with Patch's daily newsletter.

Good day, people of Albuquerque! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Albuquerque Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 68 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. Homelessness in Albuquerque is one of the many topics of this campaign season, which is set to wrap up Tuesday. Two separate camps in the Barelas neighborhood are getting attention from neighbors and police. Officers have tried to relocate the folks, but neighbors said they're persistent. Neighbors say it's a delicate balance between wanting to see people in the homeless population have a safe place to stay and needing to feel safe and clean in their own backyard. (KOB)
  2. A majority of Albuquerque voters support mandates requiring employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or undergo weekly testing, but they are largely split along party affiliation, a new report found. The political divide is also apparent in voters' views on how safe it is to go to large outdoor events, indoor entertainment venues, and indoor restaurants during the pandemic. Overall, 63 percent of voters surveyed said they support COVID-19 vaccine mandates, while 32 percent expressed opposition. The remaining respondents were unsure or had mixed feelings. (Albuquerque Journal)
  3. The city of Albuquerque is working to preserve the "brutalist architecture" look of its main library downtown. (KRQE News 13)
  4. Just in time for Halloween, the New Mexico Comic and Film Expo returned to Albuquerque on Sunday. (KOB)
  5. Several firearms were recovered in a northwest Albuquerque house party shooting that took place Saturday. (KRQE News 13)
