Learn what's new in Albuquerque with Patch's daily newsletter.

Happy Wednesday, neighbors! Let's get this day started off right. Here's everything you need to know around town today.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine. High: 60 Low: 39.

Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. For the second day in a row, Bernalillo County will keep its downtown headquarters closed due to broken glass in the building's main lobby. The problem emerged Monday around 3 a.m. after the county says someone shot out at least eight windows in the atrium, about five or six floors above ground level. The county says the more than 800 employees that normally work at Alvarado Square will continue to work remotely. No one was hurt in the shooting and the police are investigating the situation. (KRQE News 13)
  2. People are weighing in on the city council's recent decision to bring back speed vans. Speeding is a problem many Albuquerque residents have encountered. One person said they have almost gotten hit walking and believe the cameras are a good idea. Councilor Brook Bassan said they want to make sure they're not policing for profit, instead they're just hoping to make people more aware. (KOAT New Mexico)
  3. A behavioral health crisis triage center coming to Albuquerque will be next to the current UNM psych emergency room. People could admit themselves to the center or be brought by first responders or family members. (KRQE News 13)
  4. While there are plenty of calls involving animals in Albuquerque, there are now only a handful of officers to answer them due to Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department being extremely understaffed. (KOAT New Mexico)
  5. Eight-year-old Albuquerque girl, Ashley Torres, has become a published author with her first book "The Bear and Winter."(KOB)
