🌱Church's Endorsement Illegal + North Valley Affordable Housing

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Albuquerque.

Good day, people of Albuquerque! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Albuquerque Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy. High: 57 Low: 34.

Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. City council candidate Lori Robertson said she and Legacy Church did nothing wrong when the church's pastor stood on stage and told parishioners to vote for her. However, churches cannot legally endorse candidates if they want to keep their non-profit status and not pay taxes. IRS documents show nonprofits are not allowed to endorse candidates verbally or in writing if they want to be tax-exempt. (KOAT Albuquerque)
  2. A plan to build dozens of affordable housing units in the North Valley is moving forward. The Calle Cuarta Development would be built on what's now an empty lot on Fourth Street near Candelaria. The proposal includes about 60 affordable rental units along with 21 townhomes. A third of those townhomes would be priced for homeowners below the median income. (KRQE News 13)
  3. Now that the Balloon Fiesta crowd is long gone, COVID-19 testing has returned to Balloon Fiesta Park. (KOB)
  4. Started by the U.S. Marine Corps, the Toys for Tots campaign works to ensure no child goes without the joy of unwrapping a gift under the Christmas tree. The campaign is back this year and is in need of the community's help. (KRQE News 13)
  5. The city's Solid Waste Management Department will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25. (KOB)
