Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:
- The Albuquerque Police Department has released video footage and new details in a shooting on Juan Tabo that involved four injured officers. The shooting took place primarily in the parking lot of a Dutch Bros. Coffee stand on Juan Tabo at the intersection of Mountain, as well as a nearby alleyway. One of the suspects, 27-year-old James Ramirez of California, is accused of shooting at officers as they attempted to stop him for a robbery investigation. A second suspect in the case has not been arrested or positively identified in the case. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Fire Department is joining forces with local clothing bank Locker 505 for their "Socktober" sock drive. The drive is being held in partnership with the City of Albuquerque to collect socks for children in need as temperatures drop. Residents are encouraged to stop by the Albuquerque Fire Department or visit Locker 505's website for more information. (KOB)
- Encuentro, a community-led center for Spanish-speaking Latinx immigrants, has launched a campaign to help pay off and renovate a building in the heart of Albuquerque's historic Barelas neighborhood. (KRQE News 13)
- A continuing property tax by Albuquerque Public Schools will soon be voted on by thousands of residents. (KOAT New Mexico)
- Proof of a COVID-19 vaccine will be required for those attending an upcoming presentation by Poet Laureate Joy Harjo at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. (UNM Newsroom)
