🌱 Early Voting Ends + Native-American Exhibits Come To The Parks

The latest from Albuquerque, delivered straight to your inbox — for free!

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Albuquerque Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 73 Low: 45.

Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. The deadline for early in-person voting or same-day voter registration is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in New Mexico. Voter turnout remains low in two major counties in the state. Election night is five days away and the voter turnout in Bernalillo County, New Mexico's largest county, is at 13%. If you're not able to cast your ballot before Saturday's early voting deadline, more polling places will pop up on election night. Polling locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Nov. 2. (KOAT New Mexico)
  2. The National Park Service has partnered with a tourism association to ensure the contributions, cultures, and traditions of Native Americans are incorporated into exhibits and programming at sites across the country. Sherry Rupert, the chief executive of the tourism association based in Albuquerque, said previous partnerships at individual park sites have boosted awareness of nearby tribes. "Native American tribes have ancestral connections to public lands that pre-date the formation of the National Park Service by millennia," Rupert said. (KRQE News 13)
  3. ABQ RIDE is waiving fares for Election Day on Nov. 2 to ensure voters can make it to the polls. Passengers can ride fixed-route buses and Sun Vans, for those who qualify, for free on this day. (KRQE News 13)
  4. The Albuquerque Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that has left one person dead in Albuquerque on Thursday afternoon. (KOAT New Mexico)
  5. The Huskisson Halloween House, a northeast Albuquerque haunted house supporting local food collection efforts is returning for its 10th year. (KOB)
