Five Drive-By Shootings In Two Weeks + Balloon Fiesta Clean Up

Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. Five drive-by shootings in a matter of two weeks has left a southwest Albuquerque neighborhood on edge. Neighbors say they can't raise their kids around this kind of violence, and are leaving the neighborhood in search of a safer one, it seems like their only option. Neighbors say they plan to hand over all the security camera footage they've collected over the past two weeks, if and when investigators ask for it. (KOB)
  2. Hundreds of volunteers gathered at Balloon Fiesta Park on Monday to clean up our city. Families and friends are coming together to beautify Albuquerque as the Balloon Fiesta approaches. The metro's clean city division is also running a graffiti ratification crew to prepare for the fiesta. (KOAT New Mexico)
  3. A local nonprofit is advocating for improved health, social services, and economic wellbeing for American Indian and Alaska Native elders in the state. (KRQE News 13)
  4. The University of New Mexico is partnering with a group that focusses on cannabis education and creates curriculum about the industry. (KRQE News 13)
  5. Rio Rancho Public Schools canceled class for all students Monday because of a widespread internet outage in the area. (KOAT New Mexico)
