Free Child And Infant CPR And Choking Seminar In Albuquerque

From the City of Albuquerque: The City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department will host two free seminars next week to teach critical lifesaving skills for children and infants. Certified lifeguard instructors from the City’s Aquatics Division will be teaching CPR and other lifesaving techniques to parents, guardians, and other child caregivers.

“No parent wants to imagine needing to perform CPR or their child choking,” stated Josh Herbert, Aquatics Division Manager. “These seminars will provide parents and other caregivers with the necessary skills and know-how to respond in an emergency.”
According to the American Heart Association, more than 7,000 children suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every year. Additionally, choking is considered a leading cause of death among children, especially for kids ages 3 and younger. Survival of these events often depends on immediately receiving CPR from someone nearby.

These free seminars are intended to give parents the confidence and peace-of-mind that they will be prepared should they be called upon to perform CPR in an emergency. Registration is limited to 20 participants per seminar. Interested participants can register at http://play.cabq.gov.
