Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. An Albuquerque nonprofit is helping families struggling with making rent payments due to COVID-related issues. HopeWorks is once again offering a COVID eviction-prevention program. In anticipation of the state's moratorium extension ending, the program was approved for the second round of rent assistance. Those in need of assistance must be behind on rent due to a loss of income as a direct result of the pandemic. (KRQE News 13)
  2. A group of mothers, bonded by grief, but united in creating change to make Albuquerque safer, are vowing to take their fight to the New Mexico State Legislature and to the halls of power at the City of Albuquerque. They have all lost sons to gun violence and they are channeling their anger and sadness into what they hope will make a positive difference. These mothers, and others, plan on fighting for bills they believe will improve public safety statewide. (KOB)
  3. Operating under "crisis standards of care" (CSC) for the last week amid hundreds of COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide, two of the state's largest Albuquerque-based hospital systems addressed the continued emergency status at their facilities during a news conference Thursday morning.   4. APD initiated a SWAT call in northwest Albuquerque on Wednesday. (KOB)
  5. The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a motorcycle crash in northwest Albuquerque that resulted in both the motorcyclist and his passenger being taken to the hospital in critical condition. (KOAT Albuquerque)
