Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:
- The oldest Black church in New Mexico is in the Albuquerque community. The Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church has been serving Albuquerque's religious Black families since 1882. The church's founding denomination, the Free African Society, is considered the oldest independent African-American denomination founded in this country. The church currently showcases articles of black history throughout the region which is especially notable during Black History Month. (KOAT New Mexico)
- The City of Albuquerque has shared the Job Training Albuquerque program's success through new data. According to officials, the program has trained 285 employees across 102 organizations offering free job skills courses. Additionally, the program has allowed nearly $8.5 million in annual wage-earning power to the local economy. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Police Department cracked down on traffic speeders this weekend. During the operation, the department has issued more than one hundred citations per night targeting speeders with the aim of decreasing service calls in the downtown area. The Valley Area Command directed the operation and they reportedly have seen a difference since the beginning of the operation. (KOB)
