Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. One formerly run-down strip mall near the International District in Southeast Albuquerque is now bustling with activity from a new flower shop and a neighborhood gym. The two new businesses opened in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic last September. Until the arrival of those businesses, customer flow was generally sporadic at the few existing strip mall operations. Through the new Color Theory coalition, other nonprofits that work to build entrepreneurship and economic opportunity in the city's underserved communities expect to provide a lot more support, guidance and access to capital for Albuquerque's marginalized, minority populations.   2. A local Albuquerque family is furious and mourning the deaths of their loved ones following a fatal car crash caused by driver with a known history of drunk-driving. The victims died hours before their first wedding anniversary. The suspect has not yet been officially charged for this deadly crash, but will appear in court this week. (KOB)
  3. A judge has ruled that Eddy Aragon can stay on the ballot for the November mayoral race. (KOB)
  4. Mothers Against Drunk Driving to host annual Walk Like MADD fundraising event in October. (KRQE News 13)
  5. Members of the community gathered and walked together on Sunday to raise awareness for suicide prevention; kicking off suicide awareness week at the University of New Mexico. (KRQE News 13)
