Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas is teaming up with a state lawmaker to change how cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women are handled. Balderas and State Senator Shannon Pinto are now announcing a reform bill requiring at least half a million dollars to fund. The bill would help bring on investigators, social workers, and prosecutors for these cases. It also demands communication across multiple agencies working on these cases.(KRQE News 13)
  2. City of Albuquerque officials on Friday said they will not move forward with a proposed lease for a development near the Sunport called the Orion Center. The massive project was proposed by Theia Group, a startup that wanted to surveil the planet with satellites to inform things like border security, mapping, and first responder operations. Satellites were supposed to be built and tested at the Orion Center, which was to include millions of square feet in development near the intersection of Gibson Boulevard SE and Girard Boulevard SE.   3. The Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office will be teaming up with several community partners to provide warmth and comfort items to those in need this holiday season. (KRQE News 13)
  4. A new appropriations bill in New Mexico calls for $10 million to build, repair, and refurbish electric vehicle charging stations across the state. (KOB)
