Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. A United State government nuclear waste repository site in southeastern New Mexico evacuated a portion of its site after radioactive liquid was discovered in a shipping container. The incident occurred on Saturday when containers were being processed to be disposed of underground. The repository is responsible for disposing of radioactive waste from the Cold War era. Officials with the repository assure the public that there is no contamination or concern following the discovery of the radioactive liquid. (KRQE News 13)
  2. A vote conducted by the organizers of ABQ Pride has resulted in the decision to not allow the Albuquerque Police Department to participate in the event. Only one member of the event's Board voted against the motion on Sunday. The police department's ambassador reports that the department respects the board's decision. (Albuquerque Journal)
  3. Data released by Albuquerque Public Schools details a serious problem in Albuquerque students' attendance. Forty percent of all schools in the district have a majority of their student body as chronically absent (missing more than 18 days of school each year). The Attendance for Success Act approved in 2019 requires schools to track and monitor students' absences. (KRQE News 13)
