Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. Albuquerque police arrested the suspect involved in more than a dozen robberies and assaults since 2020. He was arrested after he robbed a Wendy's in northwest Albuquerque. Investigators believe he is also the suspect in a robbery at a Twisters restaurant in northwest Albuquerque where two employees were stabbed. He was booked on his outstanding warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and six misdemeanor shoplifting warrants. (KOAT New Mexico)
  2. A new daily direct flight between Albuquerque and Hollywood Burbank Airport is expected to begin early next year. The Southwest Airlines flight will begin Jan. 17. The connection was called a "testament to Albuquerque's growing film industry." According to the release, Southwest also plans to increase the frequency or number of flights from Albuquerque to several cities, including Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Diego, starting in the first quarter of 2022 (Albuquerque Journal)
  3. A 21-year-old Navajo man is to serve 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to beating his girlfriend to death in 2019. (KRQE News 13)
  4. According to the New Mexico Public Education Department, school-based COVID-19 cases have dropped nearly 40 percent amid new protocols. (KOB)
  5. The National Hispanic Cultural Center is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and all descendants of Spanish-speaking countries. (KOAT New Mexico)
