Here are the top three stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. The Albuquerque Police Department announced that they will continue conducting a crackdown on speeding throughout the city. Last month, the department handed out over two thousand citations with over 600 of those citations being for speeding. The recent crackdown is in response to a significant rise in fatal collisions. (KRQE News 13)
  2. The City of Albuquerque is will begin charging an extra fee to everyone staying at an Albuquerque hotel in an effort to increase tourism. The fee is expected to generate more than $4.8 million for the city's tourism budget. The new funds will be allocated towards a media campaign highlighting why people should travel to Duke City. (KOAT New Mexico)
  3. The Albuquerque Public School District is considering a new proposal that would lengthen the school year by 10 days. Currently, nine schools within the district adhere to an extended school year and the new proposal would expand it to every school in the district. Additional funds would be administered to cover the extra school days. (KRQE News 13)
