Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. Albuquerque City Council defers speed van discussion to next meeting. In June, Mayor Tim Keller said he would like to see speed vans return to the streets of Albuquerque. An increase in speed and drag racing on city streets combined with fewer police on patrol are behind the decision. The discussion item regarding speed vans was deferred to the Sept. 20 board meeting.(KOAT New Mexico)
  2. Records show that some Albuquerque restaurants have not been inspected since 2019, which means health and sanitation codes may not be enforced. While some restaurants have been inspected twice already this year, some haven't been inspected in over three years. During the pandemic, inspectors focused more on COVID compliance than food safety. 3. An Albuquerque woman reflects on how she bore witness to 9/11 while visiting friends in New Jersey. (Albuquerque Journal)
  4. A woman, 56, is charged with homicide six months after a man was killed in a fiery crash in Northeast Albuquerque. (Albuquerque Journal)
  5. The auction of a popular Albuquerque park upsets community members. (KOB)
