Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:
- State Representative Debbie Armstrong announced on Tuesday that she will not seek re-election in 2022. Armstrong, who represents Albuquerque's House District 17, was elected in 2014 and is currently serving her fourth term. As the House Health and Human Services Committee Chair, Armstrong played a role in the passage of several healthcare bills, including the End-of-Life Options Act and the Cannabis Regulation Act. Her decision is due to Armstrong's desire to focus more on other projects. (KOB)
- A new Albuquerque apartment project is expected d to open in phases starting in the second quarter of 2022. Allaso High Desert will be geared toward young professionals and new families and carry an "outdoorsy" feel. The building will be amenity-rich, with a resort-style pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, game lawns, fire pits, shaded areas, ramadas, an outdoor fitness area, and putting green. The development is expected to create 350 construction jobs. (Albuquerque Journal)
- Former state employee convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to probation after stealing $25,000 from a trucking firm in Bernalillo while she was the Tax and Revenue secretary. (KRQE News 13)
- A new program, "ABQ at Home," aiming to help Albuquerque homeowners pay for repairs was highlighted Tuesday, among millions of dollars the city says it's continuing to invest in supportive and low incoming housing projects. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Police Department investigation is suggesting a Subway employee shot and killed an armed man who tried to rob the restaurant on Tuesday morning. (KOB)
