Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. Newly sworn-in state Rep. Bounkeua is hoping to restore public trust by ensuring fair treatment and equal representation for all. During the pandemic, Bounkeua led the Asian Family Center and publicly addressed concerns about Asian hate crimes in New Mexico. The concerns surrounding racism and the push for representation led Bounkeua to run for the seat. Rep. Bounkeua was named to the District 19 Bernalillo County seat of former Rep. Cheryl Williams Stapleton, who resigned amid allegations of stealing public money. (KOB)
  2. The Bernalillo County district attorney has brought a lawsuit suit against the New Mexico Civil Guard following a violent protest last summer. The group tried to get the suit thrown out saying they were simply exercising their First and Second Amendment rights but a judge rejected that argument, allowing the lawsuit can move ahead. The district attorney's office calls the Civil Guard a right-wing extremist group and accuses its members of acting as vigilantes. The DA says it's working to get social media records showing how the group organized extremist activity. (KRQE News 13)
  3. Authorities are looking for a man and a woman who robbed a bank Tuesday morning in Northeast Albuquerque. (Albuquerque Journal)
  4. Tim Keller has a big lead in the money race for re-election as Albuquerque mayor. (KOAT New Mexico)
  5. Most Albuquerque riders on public transportation are adhering to the mask mandate, but not all. (KRQE News 13)
